Southern California

Southern California is an exciting place to be! You will enjoy famous weather, movie stars, Hollywood, white sand beaches, Disneyland, and more. We are happy to offer four outstanding programs in Southern California: homestay placements with ESL teachers, homestay placements for college students, high school homestay placements, and guardianship services for minor students.

Teacher Homestays for Students and Professionals

Come to Southern California and live with your ESL teacher and their family for one or two weeks! This is an enriching educational alternative to sitting in a classroom with students from your country. Students are completely immersed in the culture and family life of their host family and ESL teacher. All students receive 15 hours of individual ESL instruction per week, three meals per day, a private bedroom, and sightseeing opportunities in the famous "Orange County" area of Los Angeles! ESL instruction includes formal conversation, grammar, and writing. Each student can tailor their course schedule in areas they want to improve the most! All ESL teachers are qualified and have years of experience in teaching ESL. Students will receive a certificate upon program completion.

For business people who have professional needs and who want specialized vocabulary, we can tailor the program to accommodate these needs. This very intensive program is ideal for business professionals seeking to advance their careers.

Whether you stay for one or two weeks, you will never speak your own language and will combine formal ESL instruction with your immersion into American culture. This is a rare and unique opportunity. This program fills QUICKLY so be sure to get your application in!

Homestay Placements for College Students

Our host families in Southern California are dedicated, caring, and eager to meet you. Hosts are a variety of ages and can be families with children, single adults, couples without children, single parents, and retired people. In addition, hosts come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, which represents the diversity of the U.S.

Our screening process for new host families is rigorous. All host families are interviewed in their homes by an area coordinator prior to being accepted to the program. We seek to ensure that students will have a positive and supportive environment.

High School Homestay Placements

This program is for students who have obtained an I-20 from a high school on their own and would only like a homestay placement. Typically, ISP places students within 3–5 miles of their high schools with families that have knowledge of the high school program. ISP places students in this program in both Northern and Southern California.

ISP High School Coordinator
ISP's high school coordinator works closely with the students to be sure that their academic studies and homestay experiences are successful. Three times per year, the ISP high school coordinator will personally meet with the students and their host families and write a report that is sent to the student's families.

Guardianship Services for Minor Students

ISP also offers guardianship service for minor children studying in the U.S. for one or more academic years. Students do not need to be enrolled in the ISP program in order to qualify. Many middle schools and high schools require an assigned guardian in order for a foreign student to be enrolled. ISP can offer this! If you are interested in this service, please contact our office for more information.

You should receive your homestay placement information 2–4 weeks before your arrival if you have applied sufficiently in advance. Late applications will delay processing. Each student will receive a host profile giving all relevant information about their host family and how they will commute to school from their host home and guidelines to the program. Upon receipt of your housing assignment, immediately notify your host and confirm your arrival date.

Host families do not pick up students at the airport. You may make a reservation for airport pickup by an ISP driver. To reserve this service, please complete the airport pickup form in your application.

Thank you for your interest in ISP. We look forward to welcoming you to California!
